Adventure Awaits

Life is full of bumps and bruises, but if that is all we are focused on, we will never truly be happy.

Gordon B. Hinckley once said: "We are in a period of stress across the world. There are occasionally hard days for each of us. Do not despair. Do not give up. Look for the sunlight through the clouds."

Now, some of us may have more of those hard days than others. Maybe those hard times come and go, and you are facing them at this moment instead of your neighbor. Maybe you are both in the hardest and deepest part of your trial--do we know our neighbors enough to know what their struggle looks like? My first action is always to put on a face so no one knows what I am going through, and I suspect many of you do likewise. Why do we do this? One divine mission we all have in this life is to be the Savior's hands and help our brothers and sisters along this journey. If we can understand that God loves each of our fellowman as much as He loves us, and will use us to help them if we are willing, we will find so much opportunity to love and be loved each day. We just need to understand that those around us are a lot more like us than we think.

As the year 2021 ended, it was plain for me to see that up until this point, that year held my hardest trials to date. Having a miscarriage and losing twins broke me in more ways than I thought I could break. Although I think about that experience every single day, time does help ease the pain. It brings a little more understanding. Through that experience, I connected with so many other women and families who have gone through something similar. I still would not wish this kind of trial on anyone, and some days wish I had not gone through it, but as I reflect on it, I have learned to be so grateful for what I have gained from it. Our miscarriage has brought Patrick and I closer than anything could have at this point in our lives I believe. We have grown in ways we could not have otherwise. Our marriage is stronger because of it, and for that I am eternally grateful.

As the year continued, there were still 'downs' to face, but when you look for God's hand in your life, are patient and pray and work for things that matter most, you will find that eventually, things always work out. And eventually for us, to end the year, we began to have more 'ups'.

Up #1: We were able to get pregnant again! Though a good highlight for us, I cannot even begin to explain how sick I was--for the first 18 weeks! If you're in that stage currently, hang in there! It really does get better. We had our 20 week anatomy scan in December and found out we are having a boy! He is due May 2nd and we couldn't be more excited!

Up #2: We put an offer in on a house in Las Vegas and it was accepted! Patrick lived in Las Vegas for a few years a while back and loved it--he has always wanted to come back. With how his job has progressed and the ability to work remotely, we were able to take this step and move in December 31, 2021. We welcomed the New Year from our new home, with our son on the way. We can certainly see more clearly now that 'adventure awaits' 😊

Though the plan was to get here and begin touching up the house right away, the back/nerve pain I have begun experiencing with pregnancy has been so debilitating everything has been put on hold. We look forward to painting, decorating, and framing windows, to name a few things! I'm excited to update the progress here, and welcome our little one in a few short months.

Whatever stage of life you are in, look for the good. Seek adventure. Remember, "Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured."
